October 17th 2009, Nor'Easter!

The good part about 30 mph North winds is that you don't have to paddle to hard to get out, the not so good part is when your paddling for the waves your going into the wind this creates an added lift on the board. Almost feeling as if the board is going to do the opposite of nose dive, a few times this day I would bail and the board would blow straight upwards! Also switching paddle from hand to hand was more challenging because with a gust the paddle would flail.

Either way, it was super enjoyable with a few decent rides, nobody else was out so I had it all to myself. I just had to make sure I didn't get blown out in the middle of the ocean!

Tropical Storm Danny August 2009

Here are a couple of pics taken by my buddy Skip of T.S. Danny this past August in Long Beach.

Looking back at them, I can't help but think about how amazing it is when we get a decent swell in NY in the summer. There really is nothing like being able to surf great waves in just a bathing suit. We are definitely not spoiled when it comes to warm water and nice waves at the same time!

Waterman League!

Check out the Waterman League!
The website is devoted to ocean sports but seems to be primarily centered around SUP. They have put together The Stand Up World Tour which showcases the top Stand Up Surfers competing in the worlds gnarliest waves!

The first stop was Teauhpo'o, Tahiti! These guys are really pushing the limits of what you can do on a SUB and the site posts the best rides from each rider.

My pick for the winner at Chopes had to be Ekolu Kalama.
He's got the most laid back style (pun intended) check out his clip below, and peep the rest of the rides on the Waterman League Website and don't forget to vote! And if you feel like it, comment on what you though the best ride was.
